Objective & Winning Rules
Guess the hidden 5-letter word in 6 attempts or fewer using color-coded deductions.
Daily Word Quest Rules
Word Quest gives you a hidden five-letter word and six attempts to find it. Each guess must itself be a valid five-letter word, and after you submit it every letter is colour-coded against the answer.
A letter in the right position is marked as exact. A letter that appears in the answer but sits somewhere else is marked as present. A letter that does not appear at all is eliminated. Those three signals are the whole feedback mechanism, and reading them precisely is the entire skill.
Repeated letters are where most players go wrong. The feedback is counted, not merely matched: if the answer contains one E and your guess contains two, only one of yours is marked, and the other is shown as absent even though the letter does occur in the word. An absent mark therefore means "no more of this letter than I have already shown you", not always "this letter is not in the word".
The puzzle is generated from the date, so every player gets the same word on the same day and results are directly comparable.
Daily Word Quest Strategy
Open with a vowel-heavy word
Your first guess buys information, not a win. Words that cover three vowels and two common consonants — the classic examples being openers built around A, E, O with R, S, or T — narrow the field far faster than a lucky stab at the answer. Any consistent opener beats a different guess each day, because you learn what its feedback patterns usually mean.
Spend guess two on new letters
The strongest second guess often shares no letters at all with the first, even when the first turned up several hits. Two disjoint guesses test ten distinct letters and typically leave a handful of candidates. Locking onto a partial match immediately feels like progress and usually costs a guess.
Read absent marks carefully when letters repeat
If you guess a word with two Rs and only one comes back marked, the answer contains exactly one R. That is a strong deduction, not a dead end — it tells you the letter is present and tells you the count. Players who read the second R as a plain elimination discard the correct answer surprisingly often.
Track positions, not just letters
A present letter carries two facts: the letter is in the word, and it is not in that position. After a few guesses the positional exclusions usually pin a letter down more tightly than the letters themselves do. Writing off a candidate because a letter is in the wrong slot is the single most common late-game error.
Know the common endings
English five-letter words cluster hard: -IGHT, -OUND, -ANCE, -ORE, and double letters in the middle. When you hold three letters and cannot place them, running through the standard endings is faster and more reliable than trying to think of words at random.
Use a losing guess to split the field
With two guesses left and five plausible answers that differ in a single letter, guessing one of them risks two more failures. A word that is not a candidate but contains several of the distinguishing letters can resolve all five at once. Giving up a turn to guarantee the next one is often the correct trade.

Daily Word Quest — Frequently Asked Questions
How many guesses do I get?
Six. Every guess must be a valid five-letter word, which means you can spend a turn on a word you know is wrong in order to test several letters at once.
What do the colours mean?
One state means the letter is correct and in the right position, another means it is in the word but positioned elsewhere, and the third means it does not appear — subject to the counting rule for repeated letters.
Why was my letter marked absent when it is in the word?
Because the feedback counts occurrences. If the answer has one E and you guessed two, only one is marked; the extra is shown as absent. It means there are no further copies of that letter, not that the letter is missing.
Is everyone solving the same word?
Yes. The daily word is derived from the date, so every player worldwide gets the identical puzzle each day and results can be compared directly.
What is a good opening word?
One that covers several vowels and common consonants. The specific word matters less than using the same one consistently, because you learn to read its feedback patterns quickly.
Can a letter appear twice in the answer?
Yes, and repeated letters are the most common reason a solve fails. If you have exhausted the obvious candidates, a doubled vowel or a doubled consonant is usually what you are missing.
